Boston (August 06, 2014) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement today after Major General Harold Greene was killed in Afghanistan on Tuesday. Maj. Gen. Greene, who once served as commanding general of the Natick Soldier Systems Center in Massachusetts, was the highest-ranking American officer killed in combat since 1970.
“I was deeply saddened to hear that Major General Harold Greene was killed in Afghanistan. The people of the MetroWest and all of Massachusetts will remember his leadership and service from his time at the Natick Soldier Systems Center. As a nation, we will always remember his sacrifice. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fellow servicemembers.”
