[WASHINGTON, DC] – U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Edward J. Markey (D-MA), and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA), released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Transportation withdrew a key rulemaking process that would provide greater transparency of the airline ticketing process. The proposed rulemaking was part of the Obama Administration’s effort to protect consumers and travelers from egregious airline practices, like exorbitant fees.

“The Trump Administration thinks transparency is a bad word, but it's airline passengers who will curse when they get hit with hidden fees after making holiday travel plans. In a year when airline passengers’ frustration with the modern flying experience is sky-high, the Trump Administration has gone a step further, pulling the plug on efforts to ensure airlines are open and honest about the price of bag fees and other add-on charges. Today’s action allows airlines to continue to confuse consumers and stick them with ridiculous fees from take-off to touchdown. This might be a great day for the airlines’ bottom line, but it is a sad one for travelers who deserve transparency when buying an airline ticket,” said the Senators.
