Congressman Markey’s office is now accepting submissions for the 2013 Congressional Art Competition. This annual competition is open to all high school students in the 5th Congressional District and offers students a chance to showcase their artistic talent and compete to have their submission displayed in the United States Capitol for a full year.
The deadline for submissions is April 19, 2013 at 5:30 PM.
Artwork must be submitted in person to Congressman Markey’s Medford District Office, located at 5 High Street in Medford Square, Monday through Friday, or by appointment in our Framingham office. Please note that, unlike past years, artwork does NOT need to be framed to be submitted to Congressman Markey’s office. In addition to the required Student Release Form, we ask that students place a sticker on the back of their artwork with the following information:
-Student’s name
-Title of piece
-Medium
-Student Address and phone number
-Arrow indication of which direction is up, if necessary
The winning student will be notified by phone by May 13th. Their submission will be displayed in the Capitol for a full year, and they will be invited to a winners’ reception in Washington, DC in June.
The competition is open to high school students only, with an exception made for schools that have 7th through 12th grades on one campus. Students must reside within the 5th Congressional District to submit their work to Congressman Markey. The list of towns included in the District can be found here: http://markey.house.gov/about-5th-district. We encourage any and all interested and eligible students to participate.
Information regarding the competition can be found in the links below. Students will be required to adhere to the rules of the competition and will need to submit all artwork with a corresponding student release form (provided below):
