WASHINGTON, D.C. – Statement from Representative Edward J. Markey (D-MA), chairman of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, regarding the FCC vote on Verizon's forbearance petition:

“The unanimous rejection of Verizon’s regulatory petition by the Federal Communications Commission is a victory for consumers and competitors. I have vigorously argued against granting this petition because it would have led to a dramatic reduction in innovation and a hike in the prices consumers pay for both traditional telecommunications and broadband services. Today’s action is welcome news and I commend FCC Chairman Martin and Commissioners Copps, Tate, Adelstein, and McDowell for their vote.”
