East Coast Senators to Reject Obama Plan to Open Atlantic to Drilling

WASHINGTON – Democratic Senators from East Coast states will hold a press conference today to oppose the reported plan by the Obama administration to open up areas of the Atlantic Coast to offshore oil drilling. The reported plan will offer areas as close as 3 miles offshore from the borders of Maryland to Florida for offshore oil drilling, even as the United States is breaking records for oil and gas production.

In August several Democratic Senators wrote to Interior Secretary Sally Jewell asking her not to include the East Coast in the administration’s next five-year offshore drilling plan.
