WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Representative Edward J. Markey (D-MA), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce and Natural Resources Committees, today reacted to remarks by Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman who suggested that even though the science behind the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report could not be denied, the Bush Administration was unlikely to act to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Markey stated, "It sounds like the Bush Administration, having seen the very real shadow of scientific evidence of global warming, has chosen to go back into its hole of denial by saying that it will not support measures to reduce global warming and its disastrous affects on our economy and environment. Hopefully we won't have to wait until Groundhog Day in 2009 for a new President takes action to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels."
