WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement today after the Department of Homeland Security announced it is replacing their color-coded threat level warming system, formally called the Homeland Security Advisory System:

I commend President Obama and Secretary Napolitano for putting an end to the vague color-coded system that essentially was a kaleidoscope of confusion for Americans, leaving citizens to wonder how to respond to changes in threat levels. Replacing this unhelpful system with one that is more targeted, specific and actionable is the right decision, and I look forward to the Department’s implementation of this significant reform of our alert system.”
