Washington, D.C. – Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass), a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee and dean of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation, issued the following statement in response to today’s ruling by a federal district judge on the constitutionality of a provision of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.
“This ruling, like Republican efforts to repeal the new healthcare law, is misguided. I remain strongly committed to protecting the new healthcare law against GOP efforts to repeal it and return our country to the days when insurance companies could deny coverage to children with pre-existing conditions, refuse pregnant women coverage, and make Grandma and Grandpa pay more for their prescriptions. The health care reform law is already helping middle class families, seniors and small businesses with savings and providing Americans more control over their health care choices. It’s also consistent with constitutional authorities and legal precedents.”
