WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Edward Markey, chairman of the House Subcommittee on Telecommunications and the Internet, chaired a hearing exploring the core principles of universal service, which historically have provided a baseline level of affordable voice telecommunications service to everyone in the United States, in light of the rise of Internet-based broadband communications technologies and the changing marketplace.
Mr. George Lucas of the George Lucas Educational Foundation, Mr. Rey Ramsey of One Economy, Ms. Jane Smith Patterso of the E-NC Authority, Mr. Charles Sullivan of International Citizens United for the Rehabilitation of Errants (C.U.R.E.), and Mr. Randolph J. May of the Free State Foundation provided testimony before the House Telecommunications & the Internet Subcommittee.
