Speaking at the event, Rep. Markey noted the sacrifice of each of these 8,000 brave men and women: “Families across Malden sent their most precious possessions – their own sons and daughters –- off to serve our country, placing a star in the window for each child serving. When our country faced a threat to our very way of life, the young men and women responded.  We all owe them a deep debt of gratitude.”

Rep. Markey concluded, “Today, Mayor Richard Howard has made certain that the name of every man and woman from Malden who served in World War II will be remembered forever.  I am hopeful that this beautiful memorial will remind this generation, and all future generations, of the sacrifices of our veterans.”
