Rep. Edward J. Markey, who serves as the chairman of the House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, brought House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the William Stanley Elementary School in Waltham, Mass., highlighting the local economic and environmental benefits of using renewable energy and other green technologies.

The William Stanley Elementary School is a Silver LEED certified building equipped with solar panels. The school incorporates many other energy-saving and environmentally-friendly strategies that save the school $30,000 a year in energy costs and produced quality “green collar” jobs to construct the facility.
