Washington (May 23, 2024) - Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, and Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), ranking member of the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee, today applauded the passage of the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act through the House Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Innovation, Data, and Commerce.
Senators Markey and Cruz said: “Today’s voice vote in the Innovation, Data, and Commerce Subcommittee is another clear signal that millions of consumers are demanding broadcast AM radio remain in their vehicles. Whether at work, evening commutes, or during times of emergency, AM radio remains an essential source of news, weather, and emergency information. We are glad that our House colleagues recognize the importance of the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act, and look forward to working with our colleagues to enact this critical public safety legislation into law.”
In April, Senators Markey and Cruz announced that their AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act had support from 60 members of the Senate, giving it a filibuster-proof supermajority. In July 2023, Senators Markey and Cruz celebrated the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee’s passage of the AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act by a voice vote.
