Key procedural hurdle cleared on Monday night in the U.S. Senate
Washington (November 4, 2013) - Senator Edward J. Markey (DMass.) released the following statement after the United State Senate cleared a key 60vote procedural hurdle on Monday night, moving forward to a full Senate vote to pass the Employment NonDiscrimination Act (ENDA).
"I am proud to stand with a bipartisan supermajority of Senators to say with one voice that discrimination is wrong. Members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community are our friends, our neighbors, our coworkers, and members of our families. Everyone deserves the same legal protections from discrimination, and the Employment NonDiscrimination Act is a crucial step on the path to equality for all. That's why I have been a cosponsor of ENDA every single time it has been introduced in Congress since it was first drafted in 1994. It is time we close this chapter of discrimination in our nation's history and continue to work for a nation and a society that promotes diversity and tolerance at all levels."
We must #PassENDA & end discrimination in the work place. I support equal rights for #LGBT community & all Americans pic.twitter.com/tJD49gbUPr
