Nominees Have Smarts, Experience to Continue Push for Clean Energy Increases, Carbon Pollution Reductions, Says Congressman
WASHINGTON (March 4, 2013) -- Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), the top Democrat on the Natural Resources Committee and a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, released the following statement regarding President Barack Obama's nominations of Gina McCarthy and Ernie Moniz to lead the Environmental Protection Agency and Department of Energy, respectively:
“Gina McCarthy, Ernie Moniz, and John Kerry in the Obama cabinet means that Massachusetts' spirit of innovation will help guide our country to a cleaner, more prosperous future. I've known Gina and Ernie for years, and their intellectual toughness and creativity are exemplary.
“Our country has the opportunity and obligation to tackle climate change and create new clean energy jobs, and I know these two Massachusetts leaders will continue the course President Obama has set to increase clean energy and decrease pollution. I look forward to supporting their efforts on those fronts, and I welcome their nominations.”
