Washington (October 24, 2017) Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement after voting for a $36.5 billion funding package that includes critical relief for Puerto Rico. The Senate is expected to act on a third comprehensive disaster package for Hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria in the coming weeks.

“This funding package will allow FEMA, the Army Corps of Engineers and other federal agencies to continue providing aid and support to areas in Puerto Rico devastated by Hurricane Maria,” said Senator Markey. “But the road to long-term recovery for Puerto Rico will require additional funding for housing, small businesses, critical infrastructure and health services. Congress must act quickly and look beyond Puerto Rico’s present struggles to its future needs. We must do more than repair and replace in Puerto Rico; we must rebuild and renew.”
