Washington (March 2, 2015) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement after Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) announced she will not run for re-election.
“As the longest serving woman in the history of Congress, Senator Barbara Mikulski is both an extraordinary trailblazer and a wise congressional veteran. Her incredible energy is combined with the wisdom of her experience. Barbara and I were elected to the House of Representatives in the same year, and I am honored to have now served with her in both chambers of Congress. We have partnered on legislation to spur innovation in research and drug development for chronic health conditions such as Alzheimer’s, and I look forward to continuing that important effort and working with Barbara through the upcoming appropriations process. I wish Barbara all the best in her next chapter.”
