WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), dean of the Massachusetts Congressional delegation, released the following statement upon the passing of Massachusetts Congressman Joseph Early, Sr.

“Joe Early served the state of Massachusetts with excellence for decades and helped build the foundation for the Commonwealth’s leadership in science and health research. Joe was a resolute champion for funding for the National Institutes of Health. Because of his support, the National Institutes of Health also became the National Institutes of Hope. Joe was a great colleague and my dear friend.  He will be sorely missed, and my thoughts and condolences are with his family, friends and loved ones.”
