WASHINGTON (June 14, 2013) – Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) today praised the Obama administration for their new efforts to increase efficiency in the use of government spectrum. For decades Rep. Markey has encouraged the government to better utilize spectrum to create new opportunities for private sector development and innovation.

Below is the statement of Rep. Markey, a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee:

“The more efficient the government is with spectrum, the more can be made available for private industry to innovate new technologies, deploy new devices, and boost our economy. While smartphones are changing our lives, they’re also clogging our airwaves, so every little bit of spectrum that’s made available helps to release these invisible digital traffic jams. I commend the Obama administration for continuing their important efforts to identify ways to repurpose spectrum for private enterprise.”
