Washington (April 23, 2018) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, today released the following statement on the resignation of Armenia’s Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan. Prime Minister Sargsyan had recently been installed as Prime Minister after serving as Armenia’s President for ten years.
“Today is a good day for democracy in Armenia,” said Senator Markey. “It is a good day for the rule of law in Armenia. And it is a good day for the Armenian people. I congratulate the people of Armenia on their continued move towards a free and open democratic society. I look forward to continuing to work to enhance the friendship between the United States and Armenia based on our shared values.”
