WASHINGTON (April 17, 2013) – Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) today released the following statement after the Senate failed to pass gun reform legislation:
“Washington is lagging behind the rest of America on gun reform, and today’s disappointing display by some in the United States Senate is just the latest example of the huge disconnect between legislators and most Americans. It is unacceptable that four months after Newtown, the Senate could not make progress even on a commonsense, bi-partisan proposal.
“The children of Newtown and other victims of gun violence deserved these votes, but they also deserved real progress. I will continue to push for comprehensive gun reform that bans military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines, enacts universal background checks, and ends the vice-like grip the NRA has on too many in Congress.”
