Washington (November 11, 2015) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement to commemorate Veteran’s Day.

“Today is a time to honor all those men and women who bravely put themselves in harm’s way so that we may enjoy the tremendous freedoms and personal liberties that make this nation the greatest in the world.

“Such bravery deserves our unending gratitude. This Veterans Day, we extend our deepest thanks to the courageous veterans who put their lives on the line to protect the safety of all Americans.

“But November 11th shouldn’t be the only day dedicated to recognizing those who’ve served in our Armed Forces. We have an obligation to honor them all year round by fighting to ensure they have the resources, support, and protections they have earned. They fought for us, and now we need to fight for them.

“That’s why I’m fighting to make sure no veteran has to wait to receive critical medical care. Every veteranstruggling with injuries, PTSD or a traumatic brain injury deserves immediate care. I’ve advocated for expanded benefits for our soldiers, worked to expand job opportunities for veterans and cracked down on companies seeking to take advantage of them financially.

“Despite the progress we’ve made, our veterans continue to face challenges when they return home. But together, we can change that.

“Let today serve as reminder to honor our veterans, but also as a reminder that our work is far from over.”
