Boston (March 25, 2024) – Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) today announced their successful efforts to secure $441,000 in federal funding to support Volunteers in Medicine Berkshires to expand health care access to residents in Berkshire County.
“Community and civic leaders are dedicated to making the state a healthier, cleaner, safer, and more just place to live. I am proud to bring important investments directly to local communities and initiatives to further their goals,” said Senator Markey. “We know that it is critical to expand local access to health care resources, and this funding for Volunteers in Medicine will support important investments to serve individuals in need.”
“I’ve fought alongside Volunteers in Medicine to make health care a right — not a privilege,” said Senator Warren. “This federal investment is an important step in removing barriers to health care access in the Berkshires so that even more people can get the quality health care they deserve.”
The $441,000 award to the Berkshire County non-profit healthcare organization will allow for expansion of their Great Barrington facility, as well as the opening of a second facility in Pittsfield to serve existing and new patients from across the Berkshires.
