Washington (March 11, 2024) - Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) today released the following statement in support for the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission to move forward with a Project Labor Agreement in the construction of the West Parish Filters Water Treatment Plant:

“The completion of the West Parish Filters Water Treatment Plant is vital to ensuring clean drinking water for the people of Greater Springfield. Ensuring that public dollars fund livable and competitive wages, and supporting local working families and through them to entire Western Massachusetts economy, is also vitally important.

“A Project Labor Agreement will ensure this once in a generation investment is constructed by the diverse, skilled, and local workforce that we know is present in the region, and it means a better final project.

“We strongly commend the members of the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission for their actions to secure a PLA and urge them to finalize that agreement through their upcoming vote to move this project forward for the benefit of all involved. It is the right thing to do.”
