National Small Business Association Recognizes Markey as one of the leading Small Business Advocates in Congress.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Representative Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), was named a “Small Business Star” today by the National Small Business Association (NSBA), receiving the award at a ceremony in Washington. Each year, NSBA recognizes the 10 most influential small business advocates in Congress. Markey was one of only two Members of the House to receive this honor.

Fighting for Massachusetts small businesses is one of the most important aspects of my job,” said Markey. “We all know that small businesses are the engines that drive our economy.  I have been pleased to have led the fight in the House to ensure that federal small business innovation grants remain focused on the companies who truly need them.  Standing up for small businesses and their employees is a critical part of my job. I am honored to receive this award.”

For years, Representative Markey has been a strong advocate for the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program, which provides millions of dollars for small business innovation yearly. Late last year, Representative Markey and Representative Niki Tsongas (D-Mass) introduced an amendment to the House SBIR reauthorization bill, which would ensure that the focus remained on small business innovation and growth.
