Boston (August 16, 2024) - Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), co-author of the Green New Deal and chair of the Environment and Public Works Clean Air, Climate, and Nuclear Safety Subcommittee, today, on the second anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act, hosted an event celebrating the successes of the landmark climate legislation, and launched his Climate Hub, a centralized site with resources to help stakeholders navigate opportunities from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). Together, these two laws have created the largest and most significant climate and clean energy investments in history, putting the United States on a path to address the climate crisis, repair historic harms to disadvantaged communities, create good-paying union jobs in the clean energy economy, and work towards a Green New Deal future.

"The more we get the news out about the funding and incentives available through these two historic laws, the more investments will reach families, workers, schools, small business, and communities in every state of the country,” said Senator Markey. “The Climate Hub will help centralize and highlight many of the resources available to deploy clean energy, combat the climate crisis, and save households money—from grants to tax credits. Especially for communities that have been last in line for resources for far too long, we can and must ensure that everyone, everywhere has the available tools to secure clean air, clean water, and clean energy."

"It's investments and initiatives like these that give us the opportunity to push our next generation into a greener, and more environmentally sustainable work force," said Mayor Michelle Wu. "Our PowerCorps workforce development program provides an amazing opportunity to train this next generation to be leaders in green jobs, but we owe them and our communities a just transition. I want to express my gratitude to Senator Markey for all he has done for our state and country to make this dream a reality."

The hub contains a collection of resources from Senator Markey's office, the White House, federal agencies, and non-governmental organizations to make information more accessible and tailored for cities & towns, Tribes, individuals & families, environmental justice communities, schools, labor organizations, small businesses, and young people. It also contains Senator Markey's resources, including implementation guides, registration links for virtual monthly office hours, and webinar recordings covering good union jobs, direct pay for cities and towns, clean energy opportunities for K-12 schools, small businesses, universities, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Environmental Justice Clearinghouse. Through Senator Markey’s implementation efforts, there were more than 1000 registration for eight webinars and almost 200 people served through virtual monthly office hours.

In April 2023, Senator Markey and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) unveiled the first edition of their “Green New Deal Implementation Guide”, a how-to for municipalities, states, Tribes, and nonprofits to develop their own Green New Deal projects, using the funding and new programs secured through years of advocacy for a Green New Deal. The Climate Hub hosts this guide, alongside the Inflation Reduction Act Implementation Guide, and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Implementation Guide.

Senator Markey secured numerous provisions in the Inflation Reduction Act, including the creation of a $27-billion national climate financing network based on his National Climate Bank Act, funding for environmental justice mapping and community engagement, support for local air quality monitoring, and a brand-new production tax credit for offshore wind technologies made in the United States, among many other hard-fought victories.
