Senator Markey hosts youth plaintiffs on his podcast

Washington (April 19, 2024) - Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) today released his eleventh episode of the “The Ed Markey Podcast,” featuring Mat dos Santos, the Co-Executive Director and General Counsel for Our Children’s Trust, and Isaac, Levi, and Alex, three Juliana vs. United States plaintiffs, as well as Olivia, and Layla who are plaintiffs in cases in Held v. State of Montana and Layla H. v. Commonwealth of Virginia. The group discussed the journey of these brave young people as they assert their right through our justice system to a livable future.

“Thank you so much for everything you're doing. And you’re doing it in different states, from different angles,” said Senator Markey during the discussion. “You're all incredible, climate leaders, generational leaders talking, for your generation and generations to come, fighting against what preceding generations have done to pollute and to create this problem. And you are arriving with solutions.”

Every Friday since the Green New Deal’s Five Year Anniversary in February, “The Ed Markey Podcast” has featured a new episode with a variety of climate champions—from lawmakers to youth organizers and environmental justice activists. “The Ed Markey Podcast” spotlights how the Green New Deal movement has transformed the United States’ national climate agenda by creating new union jobs, delivering long-overdue justice, and reducing dangerous pollution.

Senator Markey and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) recently unveiled a new report, “Five Years of the Green New Deal,” detailing what the Green New Deal means for good-paying clean jobs, environmental justice, and climate action, and providing a path forward for years to come.
