Senator Markey hosts Representative Frost on his podcast

Boston (March 29, 2024) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) today released his eighth episode of the “The Ed Markey Podcast,” featuring Representative Maxwell Alejandro Frost (FL-10) to talk about the power of young people organizing—from gun violence plaguing schools and local neighborhoods, to the climate crisis ravaging coastal communities, including Massachusetts and Florida. The two lawmakers also spotlighted their Survival Aid for Emergencies (SAFE) through Medicare Act, legislation that would require Medicare to cover the full cost of equipment medically necessary for those who are at-risk in the event of a climate disaster—ensuring air conditioners, refrigerators, generators, solar batteries, and more are covered so that seniors and people with disabilities are able to safely weather any storm or natural disaster with their life-sustaining medications or medical-equipment at hand.

“We need offshore wind jobs. We need solar jobs,” said Senator Markey. “We need all these new jobs. So, I’m moving on to where the union jobs are going to be, where the young people are going to want to have not just a job, but a career for the rest of their lives, working on installing all of these new technologies.”

Senator Markey’s advice to young people during the podcast: “Get in the game. City council. School Committee. State Representative. Just get in. Don’t be afraid. Raise your hand. Fight for the future.”

Every Friday until Earth Day in April, “The Ed Markey Podcast” will feature a new episode with a variety of climate champions—from lawmakers to youth organizers and environmental justice activists. “The Ed Markey Podcast” spotlights how the Green New Deal movement has transformed the United States’ national climate agenda by creating new union jobs, delivering long-overdue justice, and reducing dangerous pollution.

Senator Markey and Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) recently unveiled a new report, “Five Years of the Green New Deal,” detailing what the Green New Deal means for good-paying clean jobs, environmental justice, and climate action, and providing a path forward for years to come.
