Boston (April 6, 2018) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee and Chair of the Senate Climate Task Force, today called for the resignation of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Scott Pruitt.

“Since becoming leader of the EPA last year, Scott Pruitt has gutted key environmental protections, shut the American people out of decisionmaking, and raised serious ethical concerns about his management of the agency. Scott Pruitt’s leadership of the EPA has been as toxic as a Superfund site. It is impossible to have any confidence in Scott Pruitt to lead this agency. It’s time we issue an eviction notice, change the locks, and kick out Scott Pruitt from the EPA.

“He is rolling back strong fuel economy emissions standards; has repealed the Clean Power Plan; given a free pass to corporate polluters to spew more toxic chemicals like lead, arsenic, and mercury into our air; and jeopardized America’s clean water. He has handed over the keys to America’s environment and climate to Big Oil and the fossil fuel industry without shame or accountability.

“The health of the American people is at grave risk with Scott Pruitt at the EPA. That’s why I’m calling for his resignation. It is time for Scott Pruitt to go.”
