Washington (January 6, 2023) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) joined Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Representative Bill Keating (D-Mass.) in celebrating two new federal grants from the Department of Transportation for Cape Cod Gateway Airport, totaling $9.8 million. $5.3 million was granted to modify 3,000 feet on the airport access road to increase access. $4.3 million was granted to construct a new aircraft hangar and improve existing buildings, helping the airport be as self-sustaining as possible by generating revenue.
“Cape Cod Gateway Airport is a crucial hub that connects people from across Massachusetts and the country to communities across the Cape,” said Senator Warren. “I fought hard for almost $10 million in federal grants that will help increase access to the airport, build a new hangar, and help the airport generate more revenue.”
“I am proud of the millions of federal dollars we helped secure for Cape Cod Gateway Airport to expand transportation access and improve aircraft infrastructure that alleviates air traffic congestion,” said Senator Markey. “Cape Cod Gateway Airport allows Massachusetts residents and visitors to remain interconnected throughout our Commonwealth and the United States. I will continue to push for critical transportation infrastructure improvements that boost our economy and address the needs of service workers and consumers.”
"Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis is a critical lifeline for the people of Nantucket & Martha's Vineyard and the starting point for many of the getaways that drive our tourism economy," said Congressman Keating. "This new federal investment will mean fewer aircraft flying to other airfields for maintenance, which supports local jobs and the Cape's non-tourism economy as well. Alongside federal investments I have fought for to support aircraft maintenance training programs at Cape Cod Community College and Bridgewater State University, this expansion of facilities at the airport is a win for working families in Southeastern Massachusetts."
