Boston (December 29, 2022) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) today issued the following statement celebrating $2.7 million he secured in the end-of-year spending package for the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) to renovate and modernize its Emergency Operations Center facilities and equipment to ensure Massachusetts communities experiencing natural disasters, public health emergencies, and extreme weather events are better protected by MEMA and its response capabilities:

“As Massachusetts families face the continued threat of snow storms, public health crises, and extreme weather events – which wreak havoc on communities along the coastline, high up in our hills, and all across the Commonwealth – we must be sure that MEMA has up-to-date technology and resources to respond to emergencies. This federal funding will help MEMA modernize its operations centers so emergency management authorities can respond to crises in the present and the future.”
