Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) released the following statement on President Biden’s nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to fill Justice Stephen Breyer’s Supreme Court Seat.
“I am thrilled by President Biden’s nomination of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve as Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court,” said Senator Markey. “President Biden has selected a brilliant and eminently qualified jurist with a proven and successful track record on the bench as a federal judge. She possesses the ability, character, and temperament that justices of the nation’s highest court must have. Judge Jackson has dedicated her career to justice, bringing the unique perspective of a former public defender to the bench.”
“With this historic nomination of Judge Brown, President Biden has done much more than fulfill a campaign promise. He has recognized and given voice to millions of Black women who for more than two centuries have never been represented on the nation’s highest court. Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will bring to the Supreme Court a needed perspective that has been sorely lacking from its jurisprudence.
