Washington (November 20, 2017) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, released the following statement on the Justice Department announcement that it would file suit to stop the merger between AT&T and Time Warner:
“I have previously stated the proposed AT&T-Time Warner merger presents a number of potential problems for consumers, including higher prices, fewer choices, and poorer quality service,” said Senator Edward J. Markey. “There’s a compelling case to be made to block this merger and the Department of Justice, looking only through the lens of whether the merger will result in substantial harms to competition and consumers, should pursue its case.”
