Washington (December 9, 2016) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), a member of the Environment and Public Works Committee and chair of the Senate Climate Clearinghouse, released the following statement today on news that President-elect Donald Trump will nominate Congresswomen Cathy McMorris Rodgers as Secretary of the Interior

“President-elect Donald Trump just announced a fire sale of our federal lands with the nomination of Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers to head the Department of the Interior. The Trump administration intends to turn the Interior Department from a watchdog of the fossil fuel industry into a lapdog. Our National Parks and other public lands belong to all Americans. Any nominee who intends to hand over the keys to our public lands to the oil, gas, mining, and logging industries and denies the science of climate change is unsuitable to lead the Interior Department.”
