Washington (February 25, 2016) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), top Democrat on the Subcommittee on Africa and Global Health Policy, released the following statement on the recent elections in Uganda.

“The government repression, including closure of social media and numerous arrests of opposition leaders, preceding and following last Thursday’s presidential election in Uganda is condemnable. I call on Uganda’s government to affirm the rights of all its people to peacefully demonstrate and appeal the election results should they choose to do so.”
