Washington (December 18, 2015) – Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement after the United Nations Security Council approved a resolution calling for political negotiations to help end the Syrian civil war.
“I commend Secretary Kerry for his strong and effective leadership today chairing the United Nations Security Council meeting where it unanimously adopted a roadmap to end Syria’s civil war, provide humanitarian relief to its victims, and move the Syrian government and opposition into negotiations early next month on political transition. I look forward to working closely with my Senate colleagues and the administration to do everything we can to ensure that this effort succeeds.”
