Washington (December 15, 2020) –
Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), and
Congressmen Bill Keating (MA-09) and Joseph P. Kennedy III (MA-04) today
praised the agreement between Comcast Corporation and Hearst Television to keep
continue airing WCVB, the Boston ABC affiliate owned by Hearst, in Bristol
County. Earlier this month, the Massachusetts lawmakers sent a
letter expressing concerns about reports that starting on
December 22, 2020 Comcast subscribers in Bristol County would no longer be able
to view WCVB.
“Massachusetts residents rely on
in-state news every day, and as viewers across the Commonwealth continue to
navigate the ongoing public health and economic crises, they need up-to-date
information that is relevant to their families,” said the Massachusetts lawmakers. “We applaud Comcast
and Hearst for heeding our call, reaching this agreement, and doing the right
thing on behalf of their customers in Massachusetts.”
