Washington (December 2, 2024) - Senators Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) today released the following statement applauding the United States Senate’s confirmation of Brian Murphy to the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
“Judge Murphy has a deep commitment to justice and fairness that was shaped by his start as a public defender in Worcester. He has consistently worked to ensure that those whose lives and liberties are on the line receive the representation that our Constitution guarantees. His legal expertise is deep and significant, spanning across criminal and civil matters he handled at the helm of his own law firm. Judge Murphy’s leadership in the criminal defense bar and local bars and his service to the people of the Commonwealth make him a valuable addition to the federal bench. We thank President Biden for nominating Judge Murphy and are proud to have supported him throughout the confirmation process.”
Judge Murphy was highly recommended to Senators Markey and Warren by the Advisory Committee on Massachusetts Judicial Nominations. Chaired by former U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Gertner, the Committee solicits applications for the Massachusetts federal district court vacancies, interviews candidates, and makes recommendations to the senators.
