Washington, DC - U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)
and Ed Markey (D-Mass.) released a joint statement on a lame-duck nomination of
Raúl M. Arias-Marxuach to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
"President Trump has announced his intent to proceed with a lame-duck
nomination of a judge to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. The
White House did not consult with our offices, and confirming the nominee during
this lame-duck session would require Republicans to yet again violate
longstanding Senate norms and rules. The White House should not be using its
final days to try to rush through the nomination of a judge who will have a
lifetime appointment to a court with jurisdiction over Massachusetts. President
Trump should withdraw this nomination and, if he does not, Chairman Graham
should refuse to move forward."
