Federal Grant Will Fund Construction of New Waste Water Treatment Plant in Buzzards Bay

Washington, DC - Massachusetts Senators Elizabeth Warren and Edward J. Markey, along with Representative William Keating, today announced that the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) has awarded a federal grant of $2,335,850 to the Town of Bourne, Massachusetts.  The funding, which will support the construction of a new waste water treatment plant, is expected to create 30 jobs, save 183 existing jobs, and leverage $18.26 million in private investment.

"This new federal investment in a waste water treatment plant is fantastic news for the Commonwealth and for the Town of Bourne," said Senator Elizabeth Warren. "With these critical federal dollars, families across the Cape can look forward to a more efficient sewer system, a renewed focus on innovative marine research, and a boost in the local economy."

"This new plant in Bourne will be an important boost to the local marine science industry and regional economy," said Senator Edward J. Markey. "The 183 jobs it saves and the 30 new jobs it creates will make a meaningful difference in the lives of hundreds of families across the Cape, as well as the thousands of residents who will benefit from the services this new waste water treatment plant will provide. This project represents the very best of what government can do: strategically supporting infrastructure and environmentally responsible projects that will protect jobs, create new ones, and help this regional economy flourish."
