February 8, 2016 marks the 20th Anniversary of the signing of the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Senator Markey is the chief co-author of this legislation that helped unleash innovation, investment and competition.

The 1996 Telecommunications Act  also created the E-Rate program which has delivered more than $35 billion in funding to connect schools and libraries to the Internet to ensure access for low-income students and families, including over $500 million in Massachusetts.
