With less than 100 days before the international community gathers in Copenhagen, negotiators are engaged in key discussions on clean energy measures and pollution limits that will be central to international climate agreement.
The hearing focused on progress made thus far and challenges remaining as the December UN climate negotiations approach. It featured testimony from the Obama Administration's top climate negotiator, Todd Stern, U.S. Special Envoy for Climate Change for the U.S. Department of State.

Fighting Climate Change in the Developing Countries

Historic emissions of industrialized countries like the United States are far higher than those of developing countries, and per capita emissions of indudstrialized countries are much higher than in developing countires. Nevertheless, looking at the absolute emissions of countries, it is becoming clear that the climate crisis cannot be solved without the efforts of all major emitters This includes countries like Brazil, China, India, Mexico, and South Africa.

With all eyes focused on the 'global' part of global warming, Chairman Edward J. Markey and the Select Committee hosted a special briefing with key climate negotiators. The distinguished panel featured the German Minister of the Environment and three Special Envoys to the United Nations on Climate Change, two of whom were former heads of state.
