This unique committee was established by Speaker Nancy Pelosi in early 2007 to add urgency and resources to the commitment of this Congress to address the challenges of America's oil dependence and the threat of global warming. Use this website to learn about how these issues are impacting America and the world, and what you can do to help solve these twin challenges.

The Select Committee will be working every day to make a difference, but it will also take concerned citizens to enact the significant changes we need to effectively address two of the most important issues of our time: global warming and energy security.

Created by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and chaired by Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-MA), this committee was tasked with finding solutions that address the energy, economic and national security challenges associated with our dependence on foreign oil and increasing carbon pollution.

From March 2007 to December 2010, the Select Committee held 80 hearings and briefings exploring American energy resources, clean technologies, climate change and the risks associated with it.

The record of the Select Committee's work has been preserved here, on our award-winning website, so that the public can continue to learn from this bipartisan Congressional effort.
