Global Warming and Energy Independence
Every generation faces their own set of challenges. Our generation's challenges are clear: solving global warming and ending America's dependence on foreign oil.
In order to highlight the urgency of these twinned challenges, the Select Committee has identified a series of “Impact Zones” around the planet where the signs of global warming and the repercussions of our oil dependence are evident. Some “Impact Zones” are located in remote parts of the globe -- such as the Arctic Circle -- and other signs can be seen much closer to home -- like shifting seasonal weather patterns in New England.
We invite you to explore.
- America's dependence on foreign oil and other fossil fuels threatens our national security, our economic wellbeing, and our environment. With cleaner and cheaper ways to power our businesses, our homes, and our lives available today, the time to transition our economy to a more energy independent future is now, and our generation has the opportunity to lead us into that future.
- After years of overwhelming scientific evidence and real-world observations, it's clear that global warming is an urgent problem that requires action now. While future technologies may arrive that make a transition away from a fossil fuel-based economy easier, we do not have to wait for them. The fundamental scientific, technical, and industrial knowledge base already exists that can begin solving our global warming challenge.
