Markey: Obama's Nobel Prize Recognizes Connection Between Future of Planet and Choices on Energy and Weapons
WASHINGTON (October 9, 2009) – Rep. Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.), co-author of the Waxman-Markey climate and energy bill and a leader on non-proliferation issues, today hailed the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to President Barack Obama.
Below is the statement of Rep. Markey, Chair of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming and the founder of the House Bipartisan Task Force on Non-proliferation:
"This award recognizes the vital connection between the future of our planet and our choices on energy and weapons. Due to Obama’s leadership here in the United States, we can once again take a leading role around the world to solve our energy, environment, and global security problems."
