After the group's foray to Swiss Camp, Chairman Markey, Speaker Pelosi and the rest of the delegation headed back to Ilulissat, the village that has served as home base for this Greenland fact-finding mission. There they met with local villagers who spoke of the economic, cultural and environmental impacts of global warming. Loss of sea ice has impacted their hunting and fishing culture, and the tourism industry they rely on.
One thing was clear from this discussion: these were problems that were happening to these people, but they were caused by the rest of the world. Just as the days here become longer, and the ice melts faster, the light shining on the inequities of global warming is becoming brighter.
