MARKEY ON BODMAN I.P.C.C. REMARKS TODAY

Washington, DC - Representative Edward J. Markey (D-MA), a senior member of the House Energy and Commerce and Natural Resources Committees, today reacted to remarks by Energy Secretary Samuel Bodman who suggested that even though the science behind the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report could not be denied, the Bush Administration was unlikely to act to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Markey stated, "It sounds like the Bush Administration, having seen the very real shadow of scientific evidence of global warming, has chosen to go back into its hole of denial by saying that it will not support measures to reduce global warming and its disastrous affects on our economy and environment.  Hopefully we won't have to wait until Groundhog Day in 2009 for a new President takes action to significantly reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and dependence on fossil fuels."

PLEASE NOTE: The House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming was created to explore American clean energy solutions that end our reliance on foreign oil and reduce carbon pollution.

The Select Committee was active during the 110th and 111th Congresses. This is an archived version of the website, to ensure that the public has ongoing access to the Select Committee record. This website, including external links, will not be updated after Jan. 3rd, 2010.
