CONGRESS, ENVIRO GROUPS CALL ON PRESIDENT TO LEAD, NOT IMPEDE ON GLOBAL WARMING POLLUTION LIMITS

Planet Melts As Bush Talks; Members Send Letter to President

WASHINGTON -- Tomorrow Chairman Edward J. Markey, members of the Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, and major environmental groups will call for global warming action, not distraction, from the President as he fronts a meeting of the world’s 15 largest global warming emitters this week. The President skipped the climate summit at the United Nations this week, which is considered the major organizing body for international climate action.

The Chairman and others will also call for an effective and ambitious final energy bill to be sent to the President, following the passage of bills in the House and Senate this summer. These bills would be a substantial down payment on the emissions reductions needed to stabilize the climate and save the planet. They will also discuss the need for comprehensive global warming cap-and-trade policy that will enable the United States to cut emissions here at home and re-engage with the international community.

The press conference follows a Select Committee briefing with several of the top climate envoys meeting with the President this week. That will occur in 2175 RHOB at 10 AM. More details are available at globalwarming.house.gov.
